Akagera National Park

AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK is located in eastern Rwanda along the Tanzanian border. It is named after the Akagera River which is the highest source of the Nil River,
The park is also characterized by woodland, swamps, low mountains and savannah. The varied terrain shelters wildlife including zebras, giraffes, elephants, buffalo and great types of antelopes : bushbucks, waterbucks, oribi, cape, eland…,and hundreds of bird species.

The rare and elusive shoebill shares the papyrus with other rarities such as the exquisite papyrus gonolek and countless other water birds that inhabit the wetlands in large numbers.
The park has recently introduced lions and black rhinos
